allow me to introduce myself
I'd describe myself as a creative person who's always loved doing a little bit of everything. I've worked all kinds of jobs but my favorite ones involve dressing up and turning a blank space into something spectacular. I’m a big fan of colors and fun patterns and if you’ve ever taken a peek at my closet, you’ll understand.
I've grown up in the event industry in Los Angeles ever since I could attend premier parties. The first one I went to was Mulan (in 1998?) but these days I work them with a design team who works with a large network that produces some of my favorite shows, miniseries, and documentaries. Its a part time job that includes long hours, cracking jokes with a team of hilarious and hardworking creative people. I miss not being able to do it this year. It was the first time I hadn’t worked an Emmys after party in 5 years. If I ever get to do it again, I’ll be sure to post about it here and every other event I’ll happily work and attend again.
My career has been anything but normal. As I mentioned, I’ve worked a lot of jobs. I’ve worked for my family on and off since I was 10 and post grad I had a slew of making money jobs which all sort of sucked except the one I just left and my part time design job. I’ve worked as a hostess in a restaurant that fired me for reporting sexual harassment (pre #MeToo) on Mother’s Day weekend and my anniversary with my boyfriend. A very classy joint. Ive worked in fashion at my then dream job and favorite cult LA brand. It wasn’t Devil Wears Prada but it included me buying lots and lots of clothes from them, running errands all around LA to get clothes produced, and getting fired over email for asking for a raise. It was an all female run company too but they were having serious financial problems after they quit the wholesale business too early. I still have all their clothes and wear them occasionally but that one stung and took a second to bounce back from emotionally. Silver lining was that I no longer had a “dream job” (except being Rihanna’s best friend in any capacity) and I could do whatever I wanted. Which is my I’m currently freelancing!
I honestly love being able to work on multiple projects at once. What I enjoy most about freelancing is creating stories, writing copy in different (brand) voices, planning content, designing things and just fixing things for clients that look like they could use a refresh. Recently I started to dip my toe into advertising. I watched all of Mad Men during my first semester in Advertising school and it finally made me realize, I finally found my people. I’ll always have a place in my heart for fashion but for now I’ll be a bit more picky about who I work with.
What I'll be using this space for is a bit of everything. I'll post things I'm passionate about as well as projects I'm working on, where I'm traveling to (when we're all allowed to do that again) and other fun things. Thanks for following along!
