Raise your hand if you’re in need of new podcast recs! Below I’ve listed a few (15) of my favorites from this year that helped keep my mind off all weird and scary news the world had to offer this year. Fashion, pop culture, Bravo tv recaps and of course murder and crime mysteries, all of which I listen to on Spotify. Enjoy!
Bitch Sesh: One of the best Bravo recap shows to ever exist. I love their takes on the Real Housewives, their hilarious live shows and their impressions of certain Pump Rules celebs.
The Morning Toast: Part of my daily weekday routine is to listen to these sisters and get caught up on pop culture, biz news, drama, tea, gossip etc. @girlwithnojob and @jackieoproblems are hilarious and have created a community of Toasters thats fun, full of inside jokes and occasionally drama. I love the FB groups this pod has spawned and rely on a few of them for recent adulting purposes. This was my morning commute go-to.
Blamo!: My boyfriend got me into this one but it’s really really good if you’re interested in fashion (in general) and the people who’ve helped make it what it is today. What I love about this pod is how educational it is about men’s fashion in so many aspects. It explores the behind the scenes of the celeb styling world , why tailoring is so important, the wonderful world of watches, and what it really means to be a fashion designer. Jeremy vibes so well with each guest and I especially love when he talks to @thesartorialist about almost anything. There are tons of interviews full of unique and fun chats with owners of fashion brands you never thought you wanted to hear until now. Highly recommend.
Just The Sip: Justin Sylvester from E! interviews all kinds of personalities and celebs. This is a big content upper whenever I get a little too into my murder podcasts and need a fun and silly pick me up. If I could hang with anyone from E! it would be Justin & Morgan Stewart tbh.
Health Is Hell: I wish I was this great of a speaker on anything. Ali Weiss’s humor is dark, dry and honest. I love listening when I’m in the mood to learn something new from a friend who is a true New Yorker. She’s so cool but so real which makes me love these listens even more.
How Did This Get Made: Paul Scheer (The League, Black Monday), June Diane Raphael (New Girl, Grace & Frankie) and Jason Mantzoukas (Big Mouth, Solar Opposites) recap the worst movies that were ever produced and brought to our screens. Its great if you watch the movie they’re going to review before you hear their recap but if you skip that, you’ll definitely end up watching whatever hilariously bad film they review. Paul & June are husband and wife which makes this listen so much funnier and Jason ‘s antics at live shows is v entertaining. Listen if you need a laugh right now.
Watch What Crappens: Come for the reality TV recaps, stay for the imitations. I die whenever they impersonate the Selling Sunset cast.
The Dream: MLM’s and Pyramid schemers beware. This one explores MLM’s in its first season ( Lula Roe, Mary Kay, and Monat), while it’s second season dives deeper into the holistic pyramid scheme businesses (DoTerra & YouNique). Who doesn’t love hearing schemes and scams being exposed for hours on end?
Crime Junkie: A collection of episodes full of murder, mystery, disappearances and super strange crimes. This is definitely a detective-like telling of these crimes which is great if you wanna dig deeper on your own and explore these stories after or while your listening. Great for long drive binges or when you’re doing whatever you’ve been keeping busy with while at home.
Not Another True Crime Podcast: Betches’ take on true crime! They cover lots of topical crime stories, chat with Nancy Grace and offer hilarious commentary on dark subjects. Whats not to love? I love Danny Murphy the most and wish that one day we’ll be able to chit chat about MLM’s and our love of being wine drunk.
Uncover by CBC Podcasts: This is an ongoing series full of SEVEN seasons of stories that are highly bingeable. The seasons cover stories on NXIVM, the crash of Canadian Pacific Flight 21, a serial killer hunting in Canada’s Gay community (The Village), and the Satanic Panic that occurred in the 1980’s. Burned through all your crime podcasts this year? Here’s your brand new batch of them.
My Favorite Murder: Stay Sexy and Don’t Get Murdered is the tagline of this pod which embodies the whole vibe of this show. I love Karen & Georgia and how hilariously dark they can be sometimes but how honest they are about what it’s like to just exist right now. These insane stories of crime and murder are dark but the ladies take on each topic are so educational, you tend to forget these things actually happened. I’ve learned so much about crimes in LA I had no idea about after stumbling upon this pod. Zoot Suit Riots what? Baby Jessica who? Subscribe now and you can expect two episodes a week.
The Drop Out: A 6 part (45 min each episode) dive into Theranos and the story of Elizabeth Holmes.
Escaping Nxivm: If you skipped out on watching the Starz documentary series, but are still interested in understanding the ongoings of this (IMHO) losery cult, please enjoy this extensive dive by one of the cult members close friends. Its hours long which means it can keep you company while you WFH, reorganize your bathroom for the 15th time this year or avoid spending time talking politics with your fam.
Truth & Lies: If you already watched the HBO Jeffrey Epstein doc, you might want to skip this one. This podcast from ABC was produced way before HBO’s documentary came out and I’m never one to skip out on creepy, culty, crime docs, however I liked this audio documentary so so so much better.
