that funny spring feeling

With the Spring season quickly approaching, I’m torn between cleaning the shit out of my closet or hitting the thrift stores a little harder. Thankfully for my closet and this apartment with a minimalist storage space problem, I’m letting go of a few pieces and shopping my closet a lot more lately. With influencer culture its mind-blowingly easy to get sucked into being the trendiest bitch out there. Which in quarantine, says a lot about our culture don’t you think?

While there are a few things I’d love to fill my closet with right now, I’m learning that if you hit pause for a sec before hitting complete checkout, you might realize that just because you can afford it, you might not need that slightly discounted puffer jacket that you saw SJP wear. It’s cute but, there are 6 other statement jackets I have sitting in my closet including an emerald green suede one from Avec Les Filles that I debated buying for a full 24hrs after I saw Mcafee on The Politician wear it. Emerald is my birthstone, I don’t have a true bad bitch trench and this one screamed at me to buy it. Truthfully, I’ve worn it out a few times, always being super careful with it because it is suede and probably the most I’ve spent on one piece of clothing. I’ve been waiting for it to have it’s own moment but lately I’ve looked at my closet thinking, who is going to have their moment today. I’m hopeful I’ll have more than enough fit combos that make it to the gram.

The need to buy new is kind of going out of style don’t you think? We’ve all been wearing some form of sweats for the last 300+ days so basically, the old things in our closet have become new again. That dress you bought for a Spring 2020 wedding last January might want the dust kicked off it or go on a date night in the backyard just because. Real talk, If you’ve been craving something new, hit up those second hand & consignment shops. I’ve gotten lucky with finding things that still have tags on and shoes in my size lately. These Jeffrey Campbells? Brand new and sitting on top of a rack for under $50 when they used to retail for $150. The other day I found another unused pair of knee high snake boots in my size 41 Zara shoe size. Two good shoes in a week? The size 6,7,8 girls have this but the size 10 or 11 women never get this lucky!

BUY OLD - GET NEW

Right now, people are cleaning out their closets to make a little extra change. There are so many pieces in perfectly good condition for you to find. Plus you’re saving $$$ on shipping and keeping things sustainable by buying second hand. Isn’t that the definition of a win win?

The Lovers & Drifters shag jacket, unworn JC shoes, a dreamy dramatic Wildfox dress were all found among the racks of my favorite thrift stores. Just imagine what you’ll find at yours!
