double the fun
For Valentines Day we decided to keep it low key. We walked around Pasadena, window shopped, had happy hour at home and Peter made me the best dinner we’ve had in weeks! Pureed parsnips is my new love language. Despite this holiday feeling super weird because we like everyone else, would’ve made plans to go out, it was surprisingly relaxing. Having nothing planned and no expectations was so exciting. I changed my spirited outfit twice but kept one piece as the statement piece in each. I just love how a large enough vintage square scarf can do so many wonderful things for an outfit. It can elevate it, update it and even make the OOTD!
This holiday might not have required me to even put pants on but I absolutely love getting extra dressed up for special occasions, which in the last 365 days, have been few and far between. For a day that champions whites, pinks, and reds, I chose to indulge in all three. For daytime, I grabbed my favorite Fleur Du Mal bodysuit, favorite flats I wear basically everyday, a handbag I never believed would stare me straight in the eye at my local Crossroads, and a very chic vintage fringe scarf! All I had to do was take one pin and wrap the scarf around my waist/hips with the end pinned a bit off center so I could fake a slitted skirt effect. I pinned it from the inside of the wrap so it wouldn’t show. You can use two and use the second one to pin the edge down so the slitted effect isn’t as severe. It’s totally up to you. I never had any mishaps with this and I wore it all day till I changed for our big date night!
the only pieces not thrifted here are my silk mask from KES NYC (sold out but similar one here) and the most versatile flats I’ve ever bought from Target.
While Peter was prepping a truly lavish dinner, I poured myself some wine and put on pants. I also unwrapped the skirt and draped it over my shoulder, using only one pin to secure it as a top. I pinned the scarf at my side, under my armpit around the top of my ribcage.
SERIOUSLY, JUST ONE PIN
The drama this piece brings is so fun. I saw it on Depop and instantly knew I needed it. This lipstick red vintage scarf had beading, velvet burnout, and fringe. A true maximalists dream!
Occasionally I hit up Depop for vintage pieces I’m looking to add to my closet, currently its a Dior Bustier, but thats another post for another time. For reference, this one is 44”x44” and it was able to wrap around my size 4 top and size 6 bottom. No nip slips or underwear peekaboos. Look for something like this if you’re down to try this out.
Pants are Zara (thrifted from Poshmark). To top it off, I didn’t wear shoes because, it’s our house and I do what I want.
